“We have laid the foundation for reshaping our business through a number of actions in 2018, including the first shipment of commercial products from our new state-of-the-art airlaid facility in Fort Smith, Arkansas, acquiring Georgia-Pacific’s European nonwovens business in Steinfurt, Germany, and completing of the sale of the Specialty Papers business.

Finland’s national forest strategy highlights climate-sustainable forestry

The brand-new update of Finland’s national forest strategy up to 2025 introduces new goals, including climate-sustainable forestry; new, wood-based products and an international forest policy that could encompass the European Union, for example.
Until now, the thinking was that the results sought by these new goals would be reached by implementing the other goals in the strategy. By including them in the list of goals, the Finnish Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry wants to highlight their fundamental importance for the sustainable use of the country’s forests.

El encarecimiento de la celulosa eleva un 41% el beneficio de Ence
Ence Energía y Celulosa incrementó en un 41% su beneficio neto el pasado año, hasta los 132 millones de euros, acompañado de un aumento del precio medio de venta de la celulosa, principal materia prima del grupo, del 20,2% a lo largo del año. El importe neto de la cifra de negocio creció un 12,4% en el mismo periodo, hasta los 832 millones de euros, frente a los 740 millones del año anterior.
Las ventas procedentes del negocio de celulosa aumentaron un 14%, hasta los 697 millones de euros, mientras que los ingresos derivados de su área de Energía avanzaron un 4,4%, hasta los 139 millones de euros, impulsados por la incorporación del complejo de 27 megavatios (MW) en Córdoba y de la planta termosolar de 50 MW en Ciudad Real.

Ence gana 131,7 millones en 2018, el 40,6 % más, gracias a un mayor negocio
Ence obtuvo un beneficio neto de 131,7 millones de euros en 2018, lo que supone un incremento del 40,6 % respecto a 2017 debido al impulso generado por el negocio de la celulosa, el crecimiento de la demanda y la ausencia de grandes proyectos de nueva capacidad durante los próximos años.
Por su parte, el resultado bruto de explotación (ebitda) aumentó un 35 % hasta los 290,9 millones de euros, y la compañía se ha marcado como objetivo para 2019 alcanzar los 340 millones de euros, de acuerdo con las cuentas remitidas a la Comisión Nacional del Mercado de Valores (CNMV).

Valmet to acquire GL&V
Valmet has entered into an agreement to acquire North American-based GL&V, a global provider of technologies and services to the pulp and paper industry. The enterprise value of the acquisition is approximately Euro 113 million on a cash and debt free basis subject to ordinary post-closing adjustments. The acquisition is estimated to be completed at the earliest on April 1, 2019, as the company says in the press release received by Lesprom Network.
GL&V supplies technologies, upgrades and optimization services, rebuilds, and spare parts for the pulp and paper industry globally. The acquired operations employ about 630 people of whom approximately 65% are in North America and the rest mainly in Europe, South America and India.
