André Eksteen's brief for the Future Africa Innovation Campus in Pretoria was a challenge: “The architecture of the campus should play an active role in shaping minds as much as it does in shaping environments.”
André, the award-winning architect and founding partner in Earthworld Architects, a multi-disciplinary architecture practice in South Africa, was asked to design and build 280 one-, two- and three-bed residential units, a dining hall, a research building and a conference centre.

Serrín de aserraderos para producir un biocombustible apto para el transporte
Desde 2008, la compañía holandesa BTG BioLiquids (BTG-BTL) y la multinacional británica TechnipFMC, asociada principalmente a procesos tecnológicos en torno a los combustibles fósiles, trabajan en el desarrollo de nuevas tecnologías de producción de biocarburantes. Ambas anuncian que el conseguido a partir de madera y un proceso que emplea pirólisis rápida tendrá su primera fábrica de producción lista en Suecia para 2021. No sería la primera que produce biocarburantes a partir de madera, ya que al menos una de UPM en Finlandia lo hace desde 2015.

United Nations recognises UPM as one of the 36 Global Compact LEAD participants demonstrating world-class commitment to corporate responsibility
(UPM, Helsinki, 23 September 2019 at 9:30 EET) — UPM will today be recognised as a Global Compact LEAD participant for its strong commitment to the United Nations Global Compact and its Ten Principles for responsible business. The recognition will be addressed to only 36 global companies at the Global Compact Leaders Summit in New York. UN Global Compact is the world’s largest corporate sustainability initiative.

Production manager Saila Tiihonen supervises one of the three UPM Pellos mills. “Career opportunities have always been readily available. You decide which path to focus on and how to develop yourself professionally,” she says.
Growing up in Ristiina by Lake Saimaa, Saila Tiihonen became familiar with the UPM Pellos plywood mills at a young age. A long-standing and important employer in the region, UPM Pellos began operations as a chipboard mill in 1964. Since then, it has gone on to become the largest manufacturer of softwood plywood in Europe.
