UPM nurseryThe cradle of healthy forests

Tree nurseries look after seeds and seedlings like their own babies. Thriving genomes form the foundation of healthy forests.

A sleepy tree nursery is sprawled across rural landscape in Eastern Finland in the autumn. We are in Joroinen, an exceptionally warm microclimate geographically, where the soil is suitable for cultivation. This soft, stone-free ground was once a lake bed. Today, it is covered by a 27-hectare tree nursery.

This is the only tree nursery in Finland owned by a forestry company that exports hundreds of kilograms of seeds and millions of spruce, pine and birch seedlings every year. UPM supplies the world with over 50 million seedlings annually, including the production of eucalyptus in Uruguay.

Esta maniobra se ha realizado tras ejercitar sus opciones de compra sobre títulos de la compañía.

Over the past decade, Alachua County residents have shown their support for public lands through the success of numerous voter referendums. The most recent was the 2016 approval of Wild Spaces and Public Places, when 60 percent of voters approved a half percent sales tax for eight years to pay, in part, for the purchase of more public lands.

There has been extensive publicity about these lands along with their public goals and objectives. Less publicity has been given to working forests and hence there is less appreciation for their contribution to our economy and the environment.
