UPM has been recognised by the global environmental non-profit organisation CDP for its leadership in corporate transparency and performance on climate change and forests, securing a place on the annual 'A List'. Based on data reported through CDP's 2023 Climate Change and Forests questionnaires, UPM is one of a small number of companies to achieve a double 'A' out of more than 21,000 companies assessed. For the water questionnaire, UPM received an A-, which is also a leadership position.

UPM’s new pulp mill next to the town of Paso de los Toros in the department of Durazno, in central Uruguay, started operations in April 2023. This large scale project has brought changes to the nearby communities through the construction of the mill site – new jobs, businesses, roads, bridges and other infrastructure.

What have they made from wood this time?In autumn 2023, Finnish cosmetics company Lumene launched a moisturiser packaged in a bio-attributed* jar. The jar utilises a wood-based plastic raw material made from crude tall oil, a residue from pulp production. It is reportedly the first cosmetics jar that includes renewable materials in both the packaging and label.
