cortadora sueciaIncreased prices for Swedish forestry products

The Swedish forestry industry, as the third largest exporter of wood products in the world, has benefited from increased global prices on wood boards and planks in the last two years. Prices on coniferous sulphate pulp have also reached new record-high levels. Several investments in the industry will increase the production of pulp in Sweden. For example, pulp and paper company SCA will open a new pulp facility in the summer of 2018.

The latter coincides with a historically high pulp price of USD 1,130 (EUR 919.08) per tonne. Johan Freij, Head of Business Area Forestry and Agricultural at bank Danske Bank, says that the recent price increase for wood products has been steady and continuous unlike earlier increases. The lack of pulp and wood as well as well-stocked order books have caused the record-high prices. Mr Freij meanwhile warns that changes in China might affect the Swedish forestry market because the country has been the most important importer of wood products with 24 million cubic meters in 2017.

andritzSolid business development in 2017

International technology group ANDRITZ saw satisfactory business development overall in the past business year. The Executive Board will propose an increased dividend payment of 1.55 EUR per share to the Annual General Meeting of Shareholders.

The results of the business year in detail:
 Sales amounted to 5,889.1 MEUR and were thus 2.5% below the level of the previous year (2016: 6,039.0 MEUR). This is due primarily to the significant drop in sales in the Hydro business area (-9.7% compared to 2016) as a result of the declining order intake in the preceding years. Service business saw very favorable development and accounted for 34% of total sales (2016: 32%)
