metsaBoard sustainableMetsä Board makes the CDP A list again in both sustainable water management and climate action

Metsä Board has been recognized as a global leader in two programmes by CDP, the international not-for-profit organization advocating sustainable economies through a global disclosure system. This is the third consecutive year Metsä Board was rewarded a position on the CDP Water A list, and the second year on the CDP Climate A list.

Once again, Metsä Board is delighted to receive recognition for its long-term commitment to sustainability from this globally acknowledged organization. CDP has a distinguished position as a neutral organization in the environmental sphere, and many of Metsä Board’s brand-owner customers also participate in its programmes.

“Making it onto the CDP A list is appreciated not only by us and our customers, but also our other stakeholders. We have always strived to openly communicate about our actions and environmental efforts, and CDP is a great platform for this,” says Anne Uusitalo, Director, Product Safety & Sustainability at Metsä Board.

This year, 6,316 companies reported to CDP, and Metsä Board was among the top 10 % on the Water A list, and top 5 % on the Climate A list, in recognition of its actions to cut emissions, mitigate climate risks and manage water more sustainably.

“Metsä Board was the only forest industry company that made it onto the A list in both categories, and our Leadership status in the CDP Forest category was also very noteworthy. It is particularly positive that we maintained our excellent position in this year’s reporting even though the criteria for making the Climate list were stricter this year when compared to previous ones,” Uusitalo says.

“Being consistently recognized as a global leader in sustainability reporting, such as CDP and Ecovadis – a collaborative platform providing Supplier Sustainability Ratings for global supply chains – is a great way of demonstrating Metsä Board’s long-term commitment to sustainability and responsible operations to our clients. Many of our brand-owner clients have stated that because of these great results and open reporting there is less need to ask for specific information about our environmental and sustainability figures. They can trust Metsä Board to be a responsible and sustainable production partner,” Uusitalo concludes.
