Maintenance shutdown to begin at UPM Fray Bentos

The planned maintenance shutdown at UPM's Fray Bentos pulp mill in Uruguay will begin 18 April 2021. The restart of operations is expected during the first week of May.The maintenance shutdown includes equipment inspections, mechanical and electrical maintenance, special welding, cleaning and equipment replacement.
Altogether 1,200 people will be working on the site – 85% of them Uruguayans working for 100 Uruguayan contractor companies.
Due to Covid-19 requirements in the region, UPM will add exhaustive prevention and control measures for workers prior to their mobilization to Fray Bentos and during the maintenance shutdown. This is in addition to the strict protocols that the company has been implementing since March 2020.
