The start-up of the UPM Paso de los Toros pulp mill is expected by the end of the first quarter of 2023.While the project work continues intensively, the finalization of the construction works is an important milestone in the project.

New pulp customer service and distribution logistics team at your service in Wroclaw
The transition of our pulp customer service and distribution logistics operations from Mannheim to UPM’s service hub in Wroclaw, Poland, was completed this autumn. All customers previously served by the Mannheim team are now fully managed by the new team in Wroclaw.The transfer went well despite some challenges in the process. With the migration finalised, our full focus is now on improved service through training and process enhancements throughout the organisation.

UPM’s second Uruguayan pulp mill will start up soon. Once fully commisssioned, UPM will join the world’s leading producers of eucalyptus pulp.
Located amid the rolling hills of Centenario, on the southern banks of the Río Negro in central Uruguay, is the site of UPM’s second pulp mill in the country. When the first woodchips are fed into its digester, it’ll bring to fruition a project that has been in the works since 2016 and set in motion the production of 2.1 million tonnes of bleached eucalyptus kraft pulp a year.

Dow Jones Sustainability Index lists UPM the leader of its industry
UPM has been listed in the Dow Jones European and World Sustainability Indices (DJSI) for 2022-2023 as the only company in its industry. The DJSI indices cover environmental, social and governance aspects of responsibility.“Taking a holistic approach to sustainability is more important than ever. CDP recognises UPM with triple ‘A’ score for climate, forests and water security actions
UPM has been recognised with a triple ‘A’ score for its performance and transparent reporting on climate change, forests and water security by the global environmental non-profit CDP. Out of nearly 15,000 companies scored, UPM is one of only 12 companies that achieved the triple ‘A’“As a global forest industry company, all three angles of CDP are very important for us,” says Sami Lundgren, Vice President, Responsibility, UPM.

UPM Paso de los Toros pulp mill in Uruguay starts receiving wood in preparation for start-up
The testing phase of the UPM Paso de los Toros pulp mill in central Uruguay continues to progress as all preparatory activities are underway for the scheduled start-up by the end of the first quarter of 2023. Starting next week, trucks will gradually begin to arrive at the new mill site carrying wood that will be stored on site to be used in equipment tests prior to the start of operations.
