China ha reducido la desertificación e incrementado la cobertura forestal desde 1978, gracias al Programa de Forestación Tres-Norte (TNAP, siglas en inglés), de acuerdo con un informe dado a conocer hoy lunes.

Implementado en el noreste, el norte y el noroeste del país, el TNAP es un programa nacional para luchar contra la erosión de los suelos y el daño causado por el viento y la arena, a través de la siembra de bosques de ciertas especies que fortalecen la tierra sobre la que crecen.

El 70% del territorio sueco está cubierto por bosques, pero lo más llamativo es que en menos de un siglo nórdico ha duplicado su masa forestal. Lo que más sorprende es que Suecia proporciona el 10% de la madera del comercio mundial. Una madera que se utiliza para fabricar papel, para la construcción de muebles o a modo de leña para generar calor.

Por tanto, la pregunta es ¿cómo es posible que Suecia duplique su masa forestal al mismo tiempo que genera el 10% de la madera consumida anualmente en todo el mundo?

UPM sells over 21,000 hectares of land, located mainly in Kainuu region, to United Bankers forest funds UB Timberland and UB Nordic Forest Fund III. In the long-term partnership UPM commits to manage United Bankers forest property and United Bankers commits to sell a significant amount of wood to UPM annually.

 

Target of the partnership is to increase the area and yield of forests owned by United Bankers subsidiary UB Fund Management Company Ltd's forest funds. A long-term wood trade agreement will enhance predictability in the future.

In the 3Q/18, Chinese importation of hardwood chips reached a record high, and Vietnam substantially increased its shipment as compared to 2017, reports the WRQ. While the average import price has only increased slightly in the past year, Australian prices have gone up substantially from the end of 2017.
