StoraEnso Oyj(1)Stora Enso presents human rights assessment of global operations, to launch action plans this year

Land ownership issues in China and Brazil, work safety complaints in India and child labor in Pakistan.

Stora Enso has struggled with human rights issues is several countries quite publically through a lot of media coverage in recent years. In order to respond to the "significant human rights-related challenges" the firm said it has faced in countries such as Pakistan and China, Stora Enso carried out a major human rights assessment last year.

The assessment looked at 43 human rights issue areas covering labor rights, community impacts and controls for suppliers and business partners. It covered all of Stora Enso's production units and forestry operations across the world: 93 units in 22 countries. The review also covered its joint operations Veracel in Brazil and Montes del Plata in Uruguay, as well as Bulleh Shah Packaging in Pakistan, in which Stora Enso holds a 35% stake.
