Arauco officially announced it presented an Environmental Impact Statement for the extension and modernization of the Valdivia sawmill, which involves a $151 million investment to modernize the current facility and increase annual production capacity from 487,000 cubic metres to about 1 million cubic metres.

The new production unit “which is estimated to undergo construction during 18 months once the EIS is approved and the mandatory permits are procuredwill require an average workforce of about 430 people during construction, with a peak of 880 collaborators. During its operation the new saw mill line will employ an additional 390 people.

  The project includes equipment that operates with state of the art technology to maximize production processes. This line comprises, for example, the installation of a new steam boiler for the sawmillâs self-supply.
