DOLAREra of weak euro ended – HS goes over why value of euro has quickly gone up 10 percent and what it means for Finland

Summary:
Helsingin Sanomat writes that the value of the euro has recently gone up against the US dollar. There are many reasons for why the euro is stronger than a while ago: the EU has managed to tackle anti-EU populism for now and the political uncertainty has found a new home across the Atlantic. A stronger euro hinders the recovery of the Finnish economy as the majority of Finnish exports go outside the eurozone.

A stronger euro also has positive impacts: trade in raw materials takes place in dollars, which means that a strong euro diminishes the material costs for businesses. Stora Enso and Metsä Group have estimated earlier that if the euro weakened by 10 per cent, it would have an effect of about EUR 100 million to their revenue.
